The US tourist visa application, DS-160, is completed online on the visa application center website. After this, you need to book a consulate interview date and attend in person.

To apply for a US visa, the following steps must be completed:

The consulate interview lasts 30 seconds to 2 minutes, based on which the consular officer decides on the spot whether to grant the visa. However, there are cases where the visa application goes into administrative processing and additional documentation becomes required.

Under the new law, applicants who pass the interview must pay a visa deposit, after which the visa is issued with a validity of up to 3 months and a single entry into the country.

• Be sure to include all required documentation and information in your application.
• Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from your planned return date.
• Be honest and accurate in your application and avoid providing false information.
• Submit your visa application several months before your trip, as consulate interview slots often have long waiting lists.
• Be prepared to answer additional questions if a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer asks.
• It's important to remember that the B-2 visa is intended for short-term, temporary stays in the United States. Any violation of the visa's terms may result in a ban on entering the United States.

There are several reasons for a US tourist visa refusal, though the main factors that most often determine the decision relate to how well the applicant can demonstrate their intent to return to their home country and how well they meet all required financial and documentary requirements.

• Insufficient ties to home country: one of the most common reasons for a visa refusal is when the applicant cannot demonstrate sufficient ties to their home country, suggesting they might not return home and could remain in the US unlawfully.
• Insufficient financial resources: the consul must be convinced that the applicant has enough financial means to cover all expenses of travel and their stay in the US.
• Incorrect or insufficient documents: incomplete or incorrectly filled-out documents can lead to a visa refusal. It's important that all requested documents are submitted complete and correct.
• Limited travel history: if the applicant lacks sufficient prior travel history demonstrating responsibility and proof of return, the visa may be refused.
